When it comes to knicker underwear, women have always had more options than are available in men’s underwear. In fact, the panties knicker options for women can be daunting and confusing. Most women end up purchasing a single type of knicker underwear and sticking with it for all occasions. Below is a look at some of the panties knicker options for women and the occasions to which they are best suited.
Women’s briefs come in three basic types: classic, high-cut, and control. Each offers different levels of comfort and is designed for wear with different styles of outer clothing as follows.
Class briefs are the most traditional form of knicker underwear and one of the most comfortable for everyday wear. They have a waistband that sits just below the navel, fully cover the rear, and cover at least part of hip. They generally come in cotton, lace, and nylon and are good for general purpose wear.
High-cut briefs are sometimes referred to as French cut briefs. These knicker underwear are cut higher to reveal more hip, but still offer full coverage of the rear and a waistband that sits just below the navel. They also come in cotton and nylon and are generally regarded as more comfortable and less restricting of leg movement than class briefs.
Control briefs are like class briefs, but have a high waist band that extends above the navel to varying degrees. Their purpose is to provide a slimmer appearance by restricting the abdomen. To that end, they usually contain materials like spandex in addition to cotton and nylon. They are generally less comfortable and women tend to wear them for short periods of time and limited occasions.
Hipsters are relatively new knicker underwear. Their popularity has grown as the popularity of low-rise outer garments and exposed mid-rifts and lower back tattoos have become more acceptable. The band sits roughly 4 to 5 inches below the navel, but the leg openings are very similar to those of classic briefs. They offer full coverage of the rear and are generally considered as comfortable and fashionable. They are supposedly one the more appealing forms of knicker underwear in terms of sexiness.
Bikinis have been much more popular among women than among men. They offer a lower waistline, larger leg openings, but nearly full rear coverage. Many women prefer the comfort of the bikini knicker underwear because there is less binding around the legs and folds of the buttocks. Bikinis are the most popular form of women’s knicker underwear and one of the most “feminine.”
These types of knicker underwear offer the least coverage. Tangas have nearly full rear coverage, but a dramatically reduced waistband that sits low on the hips and provides very large leg openings. In many respects, Tangas are like thongs with larger front and back panels.
Thongs offer reduced coverage in the front, rear, and sides. They have a waistband that is similar to a Tanga. They are often worn with tight clothing in which ridges would be created in the fabric by other forms of panties knickers. They are usually constructed of a blend of cotton and spandex.
G-Strings are a type of thong in which there is no rear coverage at all. They are often worn with very tight clothing that is meant to accentuate the rear. They are considered relatively uncomfortable, particularly for long-term wear. Interestingly, G-Strings and Thongs are rated relatively low in terms of sexiness. As an aside, research has shown that it is misconception that G-String and Thongs can affect health. There is no difference in infection rates among women wearing Thongs and women wearing any other style of knicker underwear.
